You Won’t Want To Miss This Sprint Family Locator Review If You’re A Sprint Customer

Written by Felipe Nudour on October 4th, 2010

Today I’m going to be teaching you how to track a cell phone location with the Sprint Family Locator program. Most of the information on my website is about free cell phone tracking but the Sprint PCS Locator is almost free and it has some very good features that make it worth writing about.

Like I said before, Sprint’s service is almost free but it’s not quite free. It might as well be free since they only charge $5.00 a month for the use of it. Your $5.00 will buy you the ability to track up to four cell phones.

If you want to try the service first to see if it’s something that you think you will like, Sprint will let you try it for free for 15 days. My gut tells me that at the end of the 15 days you will probably want to keep the service because it is really that good.

The Sprint Family Locator is different than many free cell phone locator applications in more ways than one. The first is that Sprint doesn’t require you to download or install any special software onto your phone in order to be able to use their mobile tracking service.

What’s Different About This Service?

It appears that this mobile phone tracking service is “network based”. That means that it’s not necessary to install a special application onto the phones that you would like to be able to track with the service.

If you happen to have a newer programmable smartphone, you can download and install their Sprint PCS free phone tracker app on you phone. This will enable you to use your cell phone to locate other phones on your account directly from your mobile phone. I don’t believe that it will improve the accuracy of their tracking service if you install the app.

Another way the Sprint Family Locater is different from other free cell phone tracking services is that you don’t have to subscribe to a data plan with your cell phone service provider. Depending on whether or not you already have data plans for the cell phones on your account, this factor could end up saving you quite a bit of money. Data plans aren’t exactly cheap and many people would rather not pay for one just so they have the capability of using GPS phone tracking technology.

What Is My Favorite Feature?

One of the best features of the Sprint Family Locater is called “Safety Checks”. With this feature, you can program the system to send you an automated text message or email at a particular time of the day that contains the exact location of other phones on your account. There are endless uses for this feature. I’m not aware of any other cell phone locator that has this feature (3-20-11 Update: The AT&T FamilyMap and the Verizon Family Locator now offer a very similar feature).

How Do You Locate A Phone With Sprints Tracker Service?

With this Sprint’s tracking service, you simply go to the Sprint phone tracker website from a computer and log in with your password. That’s right, only someone who has the password can use the service to track the people in your mobile tracking network. This is a great security feature.

After you have logged in, you simply select the cell phone you want to locate and it’s location will be displayed on a map on your computer screen. That is of course assuming that they have their cell phone turned on and it is in a service coverage area.

Here’s a video from Sprint that talks about the Sprint Family Locator that you might enjoy watching.

Is This App Good For Investigating Infidelity?

The Sprint PCS locator probably isn’t going to be a good choice if you’re looking for an app that will help you track down a cheating wife or cheating husband because they’ll know that you have the ability to track them. It’s my understanding that as part of Sprint’s privacy policy, they periodically send out text messages to the phones that are enrolled in the program.

If your motivation behind wanting to use mobile tracking technology is based around being stealthy and covert, I would suggest that you try SpyBubble or maybe Cell Control.

What If You’re Not A Sprint Customer?

If you’re not a Sprint wireless customer, you can choose from several cell phone tracking applications that are currently available. Click here to see a list of those that have been reviewed on my website.

It’s also worth noting that AT&T now has a program that is similar to Sprint’s and they call it FamilyMap. Users of this program can also track cell phones without downloading any special software. They charge $9.99 to track two phones or $14.99 to track five phones.
