I’ve been meaning to write a review on the MobiWee cell phone locator application for quite some time and it’s about time I got around to it. MobiWee is similar to Find My iPhone and iLocalis in several ways.

The FAQ page for this product says that it is only free while it is in the beta testing phase but I believe that their site has said this for the last six months. That’s a pretty long time for a product to remain in beta testing if you ask me.

Who knows though. With so many free tracking apps hitting the market lately, I think it would that MobiWee would find it quite difficult to start charging for the use of this application unless they added some amazing features that some of the other free apps don’t have.

Let me take a minute and tell you some of the things that you can do with Mobiwee. First off, it does function as a cell phone tracking application but it’s really designed to be much more than that. Allow me to take a minute and discuss some of the features that the users of this app have access to.

File Manager

Users of this application have the option of managing their important files from their desktop or their cell phone. When this application is installed on a cellular phone, it’s easy to transfer files from your computer to your cell phone or vice versa.

You can easily synchronize your data such as your text files, your contacts, your photos, your music, and more between your computer and your mobile phone with MobiWee.

SMS Manager

MobiWee Phone Tracking App ScreenshotThis is an interesting feature that allows you to send and receive text messages from your computer. What’s interesting about the way this feature functions is that the application on your computer communicates directly with your cell phone as if you were actually at your phone when sending and receiving these text messages.

This feature might come in particularly handy on those days when you leave your cell phone somewhere and you’re expecting an important text message or you need to send an important text message. All you need to do is log onto any computer that is connected to the Internet and you can send text messages until you’re blue in the face as if you were actually holding the phone in your hands.

Contacts Manager

This feature allows you to easily synchronize your contacts list between your mobile phone and your desktop computer. I especially like this feature because I find myself updating my contact list on my computer quite frequently. While I’m out and about, it’s kind of a hassle when I realize that an important e-mail address that I need is actually stored on my desktop computer and not on cell phone.

Remote Lock/Wipe

As far as I’m aware, this is the only free cell phone tracker application that has these features. It’s not difficult to guess what these features actually do. Any time you leave your cell phone somewhere, you can activate the remote lock feature to lock your phone to prevent its unauthorized use. If for one reason or another you feel like your cell phone is lost for good, you can use the remote wipe feature which will delete all of your private information from the phone. I feel obligated to inform you to use this second feature with caution because once the data is erased from your phone, there isn’t an “undo” option. Your data will be gone for good unless you have previously used the File Manager feature to back up your phone’s data.

Here’s another feature that I haven’t seen on another application of its kind before. This feature allows you to encrypt all of the data on your cell phone to prevent its unauthorized use and then when you need to access the data, you can decrypt it.

Locate My Device

Here’s another easy one to figure out. If you ever lose your phone or perhaps have your phone stolen, you can use this feature to find it. If your phone happens to be someplace where it does not have a good cell phone signal or it is turned off, this feature will continually try to find your phone automatically for you. Then, when the person who has stolen your phone re-enters a cell phones service coverage area or the phone is turned back on, the app will report the location of the phone to you.

Those are just a few of the features that are available with this handy phone tracking application. For a full list of features, you can visit MobiWee’s website at http://www.mobiwee.com/index.jsp.

Supported Mobile Devices

Currently there are several types of mobile devices that are supported by this cell phone locating tool. If you have a Windows Mobile powered cell phone, a Google Android powered cell phone, an iPhone, or a Blackberry, you’ll be able to use this application. According to the MobiWee website, new devices are being added to the list all the time so if yours isn’t on the list, you can check back at a later date to find out if they have the added it.

My Conclusion About This App

After reviewing this application, it seems very similar to the Find My iPhone and iLocalis apps.

If you’ve never used a cell phone tracking application, this one might be right up your alley. It doesn’t allow you to take advantage of some of the social networking features that are available on apps like foursquare but it is a very powerful and useful application none the less.
