Today I would like to tell you about a really cool GPS tracker application for Android powered smartphones called “GPS Tracking Pro”. Even though it has the name “Pro” in its title, it’s actually a free app. This seems to be a very popular tracking application. I just checked and there have been over 5,000,000 downloads and it has a rating of 4.4 out of five stars! That’s pretty impressive!

One of the things I like most about this application is that it has a feature that I’ve missed since Google Latitude was decommissioned. This application, much like Google Latitude did, allows you to send invitations to your friends so that they can download the app and give you permission to track their phones. When they accept your invitations, they will be able to track you and you will be able to track them which makes this a great social networking tool as far as I’m concerned.

It’s a great way to see where all your friends are hanging out on a Friday night so that you can get together for some fun. It’s also a great way to be able to keep track of all of your family members. From the convenience of one screen, you can see exactly where all your family members are at any time.

GPS Tracking Pro ScreenshotI should point out that after installing this app on your phone, you’ll find it in your list of apps and it will be titled, “GPS Tracking”. Strangely enough, when you run it for the first time, it will have the title “GPS Tracker” at the top of the screen.

This application is really easy to set up. All you have to do is download it from Google Play and the first time you run the application on your phone, you’ll see a screen that will ask you to enter your email address, choose a password, and enter your phone number. That’s all there is to setting up this application!

Let me rephrase that a bit, before you can actually start tracking any cell phones, you need to send invitations to the people who own the particular smartphones that you would like to be able to track. You can do that from within the application very easily. After they accept the invitation, you will be able to track their phone and they will be able to track yours. You will actually see an icon that is overlaid on a map that has the profile picture of each person who has agreed to let you track their phone.

When you set the application up on your phone for the first time, you will be given the opportunity to enter your home address. This is so that you can set proximity alerts that will notify you when your family members have arrived home safely. In this app, they call proximity alerts “Place Alerts”. You can set two Place Alerts up for free. If you would like to set up more, you’ll need to subscribe to their premium version. The premium version will cost you $5.00/month or $50/year.

According to the developer of this software, it uses up to 28 satellites to determine the location of your phone. As you know, there may be times when your phone won’t be able to get the signal from a satellite such as when you are indoors. The application developer claims that if your device is unable to receive a GPS signal then the app will use “triangulation via the nearest cell phone tower and cell phone carriers’ data” to determine the location of your phone.

While testing it on my smartphone, I found the setup process to be very easy and quite user friendly. GPS Tracking Pro Accuracy ScreenshotI was also pleasantly surprised that it only took about five seconds for it to initially display the location of my phone on the map that was displayed on my smartpone’s screen. When I tapped on the icon that displayed my name, a pop-up window appeared that reported that the location accuracy was within 13 feet which is pretty darn good if you ask me. I was quite impressed by this and so I tested it again a while later and this time it reported that the accuracy was within 20 feet which is still really good as far as I’m concerned.

I spent a few minutes playing with the application on my phone and it appears as if you can send text messages directly to the people who are on your friends list from within the app which is pretty cool.

One thing I like is that you can organize the friends who you have agreed to allow you to track their cell phones into “circles”. A circle is basically a group of friends. For example you may want to have a circle that is just your immediate family members. You may also want to have a circle that is made up of your coworkers or business associates.

Another feature that I really like is there’s a panic button. While testing this feature, a screen popped up that said “Sending Panic Alert”. This screen gives you a countdown timer from 10 to 0. When the timer reaches zero the software will call, email, and send a text message to everyone in the circle that you are using saying that you need help. It also gives you the option of pressing a button to immediately call 911 if you would like to.

If you’re looking for a cell phone tracker application that will let you keep track of numerous people at the same time, I suggest that you might want to give this one a try.

If you would like to download it, you can do so by searching for “GPS Tracking Pro” in the Play Store app on your phone.
